Wedding day checklist

Here we would like to help you plan for your big day, by running through a checklist of things to do to make sure your big day goes off with a hitch! So if you are anything like us, you have just gotten engaged, but now you realise there is so much to plan, and you are a busy person. Don’t worry, we feel the same way! So we hope this checklist will help keep you on track.

Let’s run through the key aspect of your big day and the things you will need to book or arrnage, and we’ve listed a few handy tips as well!

The Venue

This is the first thing you want to book, as brides often dream about their venue long before they're even engaged! I suggest booking no less than 6 months before the month you're planning on getting married in. To help you decide where, make a list of your top 5 dream wedding spots and go down the list. Once the venue is booked, everything will fall into place!

The Wedding Photographer and Videographer

Here at SMC Studios, we would love to help you with this, and have a great combination package on sale at the moment! But would recommend that you book your photographer and videographer as early as possible, especially if you have a certain style you are after. Or are getting married in the country, as not all photographers and videographers are willing to travel, but here at SMC Studios we will certainly attempt to service as much of Australia as possible!

The Celebrant

So important to find a celebrant who gets you as a couple. The best celebrants are the ones that feel like a friend and can get the audience excited and cheering. These are taken super quick so I would recommend booking at least 6 months in advance, this also gives them time to personalize your ceremony.

The Dress

Most girls dream of their wedding dress before they've even met their partner and it is one of the most important things to book! Try on your dress as far out as you can - a year, if possible - because some alterations can take up to 5 months!!!  Check out some wedding magazines or Pinterest to get a feel for what style you like and you will look  amazing!

The Cake

Cake tasting is always something to look forward to! However some cake  places can be super busy come wedding season and may only make so many cakes. I would recommend ordering you cake with at least 3 months notice, orders can take over a month just to get right!

The Band/DJ/Music

What song will be your first dance? Will it be to a live band or swaying to an acoustic  artist? Or rocking to an up-beat DJ? Keep in mind, whoever you choose will usually also be your MC for the night so make sure they fit with you and your day! Book at least 6 months out to get the best!

The Hotel

Where are you getting ready or  spending your first night as a married couple?  If your staying in a hotel, check different websites for the best rate! Also call the day before and let them know it's your wedding night. Some places throw in a few extras like a free upgrade or a bottle of champagne to help you celebrate!

The Florist

Flowers can be very expensive, so do your research and find your favourite style. Write down your top 5 favourite flowers and see how creative the florists can get! I recommend booking 6 months in advance, so the florist can source the flowers you want. Also make sure to ask for a "throw away bouquet" for when you  do the toss. This way you can keep your flowers undamaged and can preserve them for later.

The Car

How are you arriving at your ceremony? What about your reception? Are you booking a fancy car to arrive in? If so make sure you book at least 3 month before your wedding month as this way you can reserve your dream car!
